Mardi Gras in the Midwest

Last week I took in the fundraising event for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. These were my two favorites from the night.

Honestly, who came up with the idea for cotton candy? It's surprising more children don't eat that pink fiberglass insulation people use in houses. I always thought it looked exactly like this and I had to resist the urge to taste it and see.

I love this cardboard box maze. I might have to make one at home!

Is that "cardboard box maze" where people in North Dakota keep their children while the adults are off doing other things? If so, it's not such a bad idea!

In other parts of the country, I understand that they have these places called "MacDonalds" which have "play areas" made out of large, colored plastic tubing with metal support structures and, sometimes, an expanse of rope-like netting. I gather these places serve the same basic purpose as your cardboard boxes do!

From an earlier post on your blog, it appears that the culinary novelty of "French Fries" is gradually being introduced into North Dakota, and that it's being received with some real enthusiasm! Heck, you folks are already almost HALF of the way there to "getting" the underlying concept behind those "MacDonald" places; for, they tend to also offer another cool new innovation called "sandwiches" to the folks who show up for their "french fry feeds." :-)
